richard, if you count employee options as a business expense and run it down the income statement, msft is losing lots money. of course, options don't legally have to run down the income statement. this appears arbitrary, though, b/c if msft paid their electric bill in options then they would have to run it down the income statement.

i'm sure msft would spend $100s of millions to keep the status quo in accounting rules - quite a formidable hurdle to jump. but, it could happen and msft w/b toast.

btw, i agree that msft is a much better company than amzn and amzn is all about tricks while msft has a POWERFUL business supporting it. no doubt. msft is fully aware of self interest and will use it against investors for personal gain. no doubt.
