Re: EMC competition

EMC really has no peers. It's closest counterpart would perhaps be NTAP which certainly understands the new paradigm, but it is much more exposed to newer entrants (e.g., BlueArc) and has greater customer exposure to the ailing dotcom sector. Still, it's share price has been crushed along with many others so the risk is probably reasonable for the patient investor. I generally try to avoid diversifying away from the leader within a sector, however, and prefer to diversify into a complementary play such as GX (which I have).

Other players in the storage sector which seem to have a sound business and are generally well regarded include BRCD and VRTS, but I haven't done a lot of research on them and have never owned them.
