Juniper Wins China Cable Deal

SUNNYVALE, Calif. -- Juniper Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:JNPR - news), a leading
provider of next-generation IP infrastructure systems, today announced that China
Cable Network Company Ltd. (China Cable) is using Juniper Networks® M-series
Internet backbone routers, supporting up to OC-192c/STM-64 speeds, as the
infrastructure supporting delivery of its national cable TV backbone network. The
new project, specifically designed to deliver high-quality cable TV content and
high-speed Internet access, will provide more than 100 different channels of
television programming to provincial level cable stations and their customers.

The initial phase of the rollout includes deployment of M160(TM), M20(TM) and
M10(TM) Internet backbone routers in 14 cities throughout China. The four major
cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Wuhan will all feature
OC-48c/STM-16 connections to the Internet backbone. The network will expand
to include an additional 23 cities, covering more than 30 Chinese provinces by
early 2002. In the future, China Cable will be able to provide a wide variety of
smart IP Internet services, such as virtual private networks (VPNs) and
usage-based pricing, for its commercial and residential customers nationwide.

"As a focused newcomer to China's data networking market, we are leveraging
advanced IP services that differentiate China Cable from the incumbent
operators," said Peng Jin, technical director for the Network Center of China
Cable. "The flexibility and reliability of Juniper Networks core and access
products allow us to roll out our cable services immediately, while laying the
foundation to provide value-added services, including MPLS VPNs to customers
in the future," Peng continued.
