Paul,

AMD has a southbridge that is compatible, and 760MP is not really targeted to commercial desktops, so your comment is not very relevant. The computers that could be used in commercial sector could be served well by SiS 730, Via KT133(A) and AMD 760 + Thunderbird or Duron CPUs.

I have experience with KT133(A), AMD 760, and these match whatever Intel has to offer - 815 (they are way ahead of 810 and BX), while AMD CPUs (Thunderbird and Duron) exceed the CPUs Intel uses in commercial sector (Piii and Celeron). Given the relative strengths of these platforms, 0% is just a totally improbable outcome, all things considered. I am not going to claim that I know what goes on.

My guess is that for a while, it was just carrots and sticks that Intel used to maintain 100%, but lately Intel had to sweeten the pie a lot (in addition to carrots and sticks) in form of lower prices, in order to keep the 100%
