They have ceded sovereignty to the European parliament, which is an elected outfit. It's a bit like the USA which has a federal system with an electoral college but the states are kind of independent in many ways.

It's a global trend which will continue and I'm glad of it. Milosevic might squawk that the judges judging him are unconstituted, have no standing etc, but might makes right. The winners set the laws. Just as he did in his time as King of the Balkans.

Globalisation is a good thing in my opinion. No country can remain separate - it's too damaging to their trading and other interests. China is falling into line and so is the USA. China, the most populous country, is still only 20% of the world. The USA, with the biggest GNP and militarily the toughest has only 5% of the population.

The United Nations is an elected body [with bad rules in my opinion] and has impact. I think UN power will increase rather than decrease and I'm in favour of that. It's annoying that the USA, for example, can restrict NZ lamb exports against WTO rules [while the USA whines about other countries restricting trade].
