UMTS 1900
Besides EDGE, AWS is also gambling on UMTS 1900 as their Spectrum allocation plans show, they are counting on UMTS 1900. See: 850 and 1900 Mhz markets

1900 Mhz only markets.

Their 1900Mhz plans have also been thrown for a loop by the return of NextWave's PCS licenses.
I don't see a plan for 850Mhz only markets.
Given the historical pattern of the GSM handset makers to serve the 1900 Mhz markets last, 2003 is very optimistic for UMTS 1900. AWS is already losing CDPD customers to Sprint Wireless Web because PCS has better in building penetration and a larger foot print. GPRS 1900 will still leave them with spotty coverage and I don't think their customers will wait for UMTS 1900. Also, given their spectrum allocation, UMTS 1900 coverage will also be spotty.
