Telecoms, drugs lead UK's FTSE 100 to strong close
LONDON, July 13 (Reuters) - Britain's largest companies
raced higher at the close on Friday fired by telecom and drug
stocks as they turned their back on Wednesday's 16-week low.
Index heavyweights, Vodafone <VOD.L> and GlaxoSmithKline
<GSK.L>, provided 27 of the day's 55-point gain, while
technology firms wobbled.
The FTSE 100 finished 55.4 points, or one percent, firmer at
5,537.0, having jumped 1.66 percent on Thursday after seven
consecutive losing sessions, with gainers outnumbering losers by
three to one.
Stocks steered a course higher and refused to be derailed by
sluggish U.S. retail sales figures for June, which showed only a
meagre rise, and a soft Wall Street, but volumes were thin at
1.4 billion shares.

Hi Jane,

20K shares ? Jeeez, people might start to think there might be some long-term investor blood in ya ! lol

Hmmmmmm .... the NASDAQ rebounded back up to the 50 dMA again, what a surprise !!!

quote.yahoo.com^IXIC&d=c&k=c2&a=v&p=m50,m200,e50,e200&t=1y&l=on&z=m&q=l

August is anyone's guess, but I'm still thinking that early Sept - late Oct will be down months. My hunch for the near term is that the NASDAQ will have a magnetic attraction for its 50 dMA. But in this insane market, its always possible that the NASDAQ could make a run for its 200 dMA (2500ish) between now and Labor Day. I would be stunned if it did, but not so stunned that I wouldn't try to make money from the move, lol.

Of course, I'm biased. I think valuations are too high and I think the consumer is not gonna pull us out this time. Maybe if the slowdown were just North America, but it's not.

Hey ! When the NASDAQ rallies, 2Mar$'s "Guidance" thread gets pretty quiet, lol. So c'mon over and post some stocks you're watching when you see ones you like. I'm sure 2Mar$ will offer you a Diet Pepsi is you ask him. :-)

You'll have to bring your own Twinkie's though. <g>

Regards,
Chris
