This argument was used to justify setting the Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984. The site of Olympic Village there is now artillary potholes. Many of the locals who built it have since been ethnically cleansed. The Soviet Empire did not fall because the Olympics were held in Moscow or any of the captive nations. It fell because Reagan put them in a position where their creaky old economic and industrial system had to compete with the West- -and simply could not.
