So, if I were to go to a hospital, seek out a patient in a coma and fire a .45 slug into the brain of the "lifeform" and kill it, I'd be guilty of what?

Messing up the sheets of the hospital? Illegal use of a firearm? Damaging someone else's property?
Certainly not murder according to your definition because that "lifeform" is not conducting a self-image.

BTW, when hospitals check for "vital signs" why don't they hook em' up to a self-image machine to see if they are currently forming self-images? If that is the key element to life one would think they would do that, no? You'd better let the medical community know of our new definition because the last time I checked, the are no self-image machines in ER.
