re: olympics

Yes, AX is best positioned, but you're right in your last thought, 2008 is just too far away. China is now forced to build out its infrastructure sooner rather than later, so we might see AX get hooked up sooner at least.

I wouldn't expect the Olympics to be a big deal to GX/AX or any other carrier at this point since it is so far down the road. Amazing that they run crap like CHINA up so much on something 7 years away and will provide little to no financial benefit for a portal.

Re: Olympics

Well, after the miserable job NBC did with the Sydney games I'll be very happy if I'm able to watch the Beijing games entirely on the net in 2008. The infrastructure to support this should be largely in place by then and I'm sure GX will be one of the companies making this possible.

Re: AX/GX Impact of Beijing 2008

John Legere said in their most recent conference call that while AX expects to land in the PRC next year that this timetable could be accelerated to this year. Perhaps Beijing winning the 2008 Olympics bid may be one of the factors he was considering in those remarks. China now has a huge amount of infrastructure upgrades ahead of it on a fairly tight schedule and telecom upgrades will rank near the top of the list of urgencies. Companies standing to gain most from this rush are undoubtedly GX/AX and QCOM.
