I read something interesting on the yahoo thread (imagine that!). A poster mentioned that the formation of European Union (resulting in consolidation of currency and streamlining tasks of several governments) will spur a Y2K-like demand spurt in Europe real soon (although not to that scale).

Does anyone have an idea how much cost (IT budget) is allocated to enable this Union and how much of this infrastructure is already in place ?
