There was a good read somewhere on how GM is maintaining market share (ie, the "strong" sales figures) by intense discounting, shrinking margins, yada, yada. They will be taking an earnings hit, you can bet on it. If Kurlak had bothered to scratch even 1/10th of an inch beneath the surface, he'd know that.

Ah well, the same level of "intense research" that used to go into his INTC calls is now going into his macro calls, methinks.

This, I think, is a widespread myth, that somehow none of this has any effect on Main Street.
The layoff numbers continue to grow, and larger amounts are coming from some decidedly nontech areas.
So if the recession hasn't arrived in your area yet, chances are it will soon enough.
