Amazing, isn't it? Yes, those are the facts, yet on SI's homepage there is a headline, "Consumers Keep Economy Afloat."
I'd rather not get into details, but I spoke at length Thursday with someone who I'm confident is in a position to know, and he said the biggest problem is that so many people are "overextended."
Consumer spending is like a car going 70 mph down the interstate that is running on fumes. In my opinion.
