BioCentury (Thanks, R.!) says that the sector raised $5.2 billion last quarter. That is -- as we've catalogued -- damn good quarter, at a time when funding solicitations were (dogma) supposed to hit dry holes. Some top performers....... Vysis, up 320%...... GENE -- 147%, RIGL -- 143%, XOMA -- 137%, EMIS -- 120%, PDLI -- 95%, NBIX -- 94%. In all, 33 issues followed by BC were up 100% or better for the quarter. Five of the six worst performers, down 41-58%, were European biotechs. In all, 13 biotechs were down at least 30%.

$300 million, aggregate, between the company and "selling stockholder"? Based on the <snips>, my guess is that the $300mm is in addition to the shares being offered by the selling stockholder. Does anyone understand the rationale of/for the joint shelf registration? Rick, the shelf registration under the S-3 appears to be part of the deal PSV made with VPHM at the time of the original investment in May 1999--VPHM pays for the registration and all related expenses. The shelf affords VPHM and PSV the ability to sell shares, or not to sell shares, at any time the company or PSV wants during the life of the shelf (evergreen until all VPHM shares registered ARE in fact sold), which allows PSV to pick its timing and bide its time, always with the liquidity of shares that are registered. quid
