That is correct, and supposedly Bill Gates had a frosty reception at IBM when he tried to sell them on a PC operating system, with a quote to the effect that computers were unwanted in the home.

At least that is how it was portrayed in a movie I saw long ago - forget the title but it was all about the Gates and Jobs et al from the early days.
