Regards, Carol << July 13, 2001 Nortel's Khatod Resigns Post As Marketing, Strategy Chief By Mark Heinzl Staff Reporter of The Wall Street Journal Nortel Networks Corp. said Anil Khatod resigned as chief marketing and strategy officer of the telecommunications equipment supplier. Mr. Khatod, 42 years old, "is leaving Nortel Networks to pursue other opportunities which he will later announce," a company spokesman said, declining to be more specific. Mr. Khatod's resignation is somewhat sudden, since he was promoted in April to his current position from his previous role as president of global Internet solutions. The Brampton, Ontario, company has, however, cut some 30,000 jobs this year as it races to cut costs in reaction to recent substantial losses and a sharp dropoff in sales. In an interview, Mr. Khatod said it was "strictly my decision" to resign. "It was time for me personally and for my career goals to move on," he said, adding that he has been with Nortel for 19 years. He said he has "a number of firm opportunities" in the telecommunications sector, including running companies or joining a venture-capital firm, but declined to be specific. He said he first will take three months off before joining another company. He also declined to comment whether he aspired to be chief executive officer of Nortel, which is searching for a successor to current CEO John Roth, who is slated to retire next April. Mr. Khatod's resignation is effective at the end of the month. No successor has been named. His resignation follows the departure of a handful of mid-level Nortel executives in recent months.
