Microsoft spent a quarter of a billion dollars to develop and promote Internet Explorer, a product they then gave away absolutely free! Why would Microsoft do this other than to simply bury Netscape as it was on the verge of making Windows irrelevant. What other products of similar importance to Microsoft were given away for nothing? Windows? Word? Excel? Powerpoint? MS Project? Games? Why none of them of course. This was just another example of how Microsoft simply buys or spends out of existence any company challenging the Microsoft Roadmap for the future.
