Blow Hard Dan - Re: "and since they recently cancelled two FABs, it looks like they've just come around to the conclusion I arrived at a year earlier. "

Intel has not canceled ANY FABs.

Intel has DELAYED two fabs - but NONE were canceled.

But you just keep making up any old lie to suit your current line of Bull Sh!t.

Because I think their timing has been wrong - and since they recently cancelled two FABs, it looks like they've just come around to the conclusion I arrived at a year earlier.

So, actually, intel delayed the construction of those Fabs, they didn't actually cancel them. The land is still there, and the permits are still approved.

It takes 18-24 months to build a Wafer Fab. It's really difficult to predict what you're going to need 1.5 - 2 years in the future. The only "new" Fab that intel has in progress, will most likely start pumping out volume production around the Q1/2002 timeframe. Since most experts are now saying that the semiconductor industry turnaround looks to be happening in Q4/01, I think intel's timing is perfect.

AMD on the other hand, during that timeframe, will be trying to switch over one of their 2 Fabs to a new 0.13 SOI process technology, right at the time that they need to be pumping out all the product they can.

If anybody's timing seems to be wrong, it appears that it is AMD's.
