dale,

<dan3:I expect Intel to do its mobile ASPs whatever's necessary to stop hemorrhaging market share, and bleed ASPs and bleed profits in the process.

dale:Which is why AMD is projecting a 10% to 15% sequential decline during a time period when all their growth will be in mobile processor sales.>

According to the AMD CC, the main reason for the shortfall is lousy flash business. Also of note, Sander's said they expect to sell a lot more Durons than Athlons. Which leads me to question, why? If you want ASP's to improve you would sell more Athlons, right? The only reasons I can think of is that there is less demand for Athlons and/or they are tougher to produce (with respect to Durons).

Re: Which is why AMD is projecting a 10% to 15% sequential decline during a time period when all their growth will be in mobile processor sales.

AMD expects Flash to continue to decline at a rapid rate, at least for Q3. It is also clear that Intel is now prepared to cut prices very aggressively to minimize additional AMD desktop marketshare gains.

And I think there is also a recognition that Intel is making progress in convincing some people that poor performance is less important than high nominal MHZ.

Finally, AMD may have learned something of a lesson in optimistic vs. pessimistic projections.
