Mary - Re: "Do you know why Intel let Dirk Meyer go? "

I doubt that Intel let Dirk Meyer go.

Dirk spent 10 years at DEC before joining AMD in 1995 - which implies he left Intel in 1985 or BEFORE.

That places Dirk at Intel BEFORE they released the 80386.

At that time, I would assume he was no more than a junior engineer.

Don't forget - in 1985 - 1986, Intel was restructuring and under siege from the Japanese SEmiconductor companies - a far cry from what Intel is today.

Re: "Who are Intel's equivalent to this guy "

John Crawford of Intel is MORE than the equivalent of a Dirk Meyer.

Re: "and will Jerry give him the resources to allow him to compete effectively?"

Are you asking about Jerry Sanders and Dirk Meyer?
