Maybe he was desperate... and desperate people do desperate things that reflect poor judgement... he may have more to keep silent than just a pregnant intern... maybe she knew something about him and she was holding that over his head... also, he may have been counting on precisely your notion that no one would believe he could be that stupid... a kind of reverse strategy there... when someone wants to commit a dastardly deed, it is amazing the kinds of complicated webs the doer can weave.....
