Hi, Will. wrt risk/reward on OLEDs:

the screen play calls for a lot of players in that as well, but since it's at a much earlier stage there's a lot more romance left in those stocks. So, there could be the kind of reward that comes from public excitement about the future, disregarding for now the mature business considerations such as you mentioned for LEDs. I think it's worth a small bet. I wouldn't mind holding PANL if I were in at a good price (unfortunately, I wasn't watching a few months ago). It looks like a straightforward way to play.

All I've got at present is some Pioneer (PIO), which I bought for their overall prospects. They're one of several big Japanese companies getting into OLEDs, but it's far from a pure play.

Hi Will,
Well, if there is a proprietary breakthrough it'll take LEDs out of the commodity biz, at least for a while. CREE is an example of that with their lock on SiC-based LEDs (at least for some apps). I'm not sure this GaN on Si is that breakthrough (or if they can lock their IP). We'll have to see how it plays out.

However your point is well taken. It'll be hard to maintain any kind of tech advantage for long.
