Well let's just say that as I've worked on this kind of stuff, One would not make it more complicated as you suggest. That's the nature of a ballistic problem and a ballistic solution. Where it is is not important. Only where it's going.

I'm afraid you are right. It is so easy to make a weapon of destruction and so very hard to stop it. The problem is that the world assumes that what you are really doing is putting nukes in space -- since lasers to shoot them down won't actually work. That is how the cold war escalates.
