I think Japan has had 50 years of 'Stockholm syndrome' as a consequence of being defeated. They are still held 'prisoner' with the USA having bases everywhere.

I think Japan is a 'threat'. Just as the USA is. Just as China is. Just as everyone is. It's in the DNA to try to be alpha male and alpha female and boss of the tribe.
