I'm sure everyone around here is sick to death of my little hobby horse that people should be civil to one another and respectful of the moccasins of others. I fuss on and on about behavior on SI threads, the cavalier disregard of minorities by assorted majorities, demagoguery of all kinds, and just plain rudeness. So I am surely displeased to see that kind of bully attitude so arrogantly displayed by my President. Not that I necessarily disagree with his disinclination to buy into the European agenda, but the least he could do is be diplomatic and respectful about it.

Gore might have had an easier ride had he been judged to have won the election <g>; I'm not certain he would either have or deserve significantly more respect, but I think he'd have been more diplomatic - more understanding of the existence and difference of other opinions.

It seems to me that the European critics of Bush tend to be less understanding of the existence and difference of other opinions. I don't see Bush saying "you all have to do what I want you to do", but rather "I am going to do what I think is right", while some of the Europeans are aghast that Bush actually goes against some of the ideas they think of as important. Gore probably would have opinions closer to those of the European leaders so he would probably get less criticism from them, but that wouldn't mean he was more understanding, in fact it appears to me that he is more prone to vicious attacks on his ideological opponents then GW is.
