The Nasdaq complacency index is heading up, and it's near the midrange. So I think it's possible that the Nasdaq could surprise people and head up for a few days, despite worries about earnings, Argentina, etc. Maybe the dreaded earnings reports will actually push the market up.

Most traders seem very cautious at this point. Yet another reason why the Naz could head up.

On the other hand, the complacency index does occasionally bounce off the midpoint and reverse. Today, though, I think it may have already broken through that midpoint, which can be a sign that it won't reverse its course. I'll have to wait and look at the EOD numbers.

On another front, the OSX is getting creamed again today. One institutional analyst says it's a good time to get in. That recommendation sure gives me pause (given my faith in analysts). With that view from an analyst, one's inclined to expect the OSX to go lower.

I saw oil service stocks recommended elsewhere several weeks ago. One is left wondering whether these investors are using stops.

WMT looks pretty good. Seems to be a discounters' rally, given the state of the economy. Other possible plays would be BJ and COST.

Did this chart before today's follow-through:

Chris,

If I recall correctly, you dont play options or go short. That sounds quite high for only long non-leverage plays, in this type of market. In a strong bull market thats probably easily achievable, but in this market. And you were talking about a total portfolio, not just individual plays.

If you played options/shorted, then thats quite achieveable, since Im already up around 100% for my total portfolio.

Good luck.
