Seriously, I haven't heard that phrase before... it's pleasantly quirky

I've taken a lot of liberties with it. Comes from an old Indian proverb that before you can understand someone or (alternately) before you judge someone, you must walk a mile in their mocassins. It's often used in the same context as the Golden Rule.

Gun control fails in Britain:

A new study finds handgun crime rose by 40% in the two years after Britain banned the weapons in 1997. The research done by the Centre for Defence Studies at Kings College in London has concluded that existing laws are targeting legitimate users of firearms rather than criminals, the BBC reports. They found that the number of handgun crimes rose to 3,685 in 1999-2000 from 2,648 in 1997-98.
