FC is nowhere near mature technology status. However, it has come a long way since 1996. Especially for small to medium size companies (5 to 15 nodes), it is almost a no brainer. It would not need much hand holding from the selling vendors. May be a two to three switch typical configuration with appropriate servers/storage device connections after allowing room for growth. That's what I mean 'cookie cutter'. Placement of servers and storage devices within the fabric would still require network planning, much the same with the old systems. FC or no FC, make no difference if the systems were transactional or analytical. I bet Brocade sold a lot of switches through CPQ and Dell with these. JMO.
