"Good" is one of those words that takes on shades of meanings in the context.

"I messed him over good" probably didn't make him feel good.

"I'm going to get you good" makes me start running away, fast.

Similarly "serves him right" probably isn't what he would call right.

"War is good for the economy" doesn't mean "war is good," it means war stimulates the economy, in the short run. In the long run causes all kinds of problems - short run, too, of course.
