America may have been founded on Christian principles, but it was the first major state ever to enforce the separation of Church and State, and to allow decisions to be made with democratic influence, instead of being made by a central hierarchy. America may have been founded on Christian principles (though I suspect personally that a good deal of lip service was involved there), but it has never been a "Christian nation". If it was, the clergy would be calling the shots and the nation would likely no longer exist.

The USSR is a classic example of a state which pinned its future on adherence to revealed truth. They accepted Marxism without question. They collapsed. The same would have happened if they had accepted Christianity without question.

I see know difference between accepting the bible as revealed truth and accepting "Das Capital" as revealed truth. Either is a perfectly valid proposition for an individual with sufficient faith, but a state governed according to either assumption is not going to do very well.
