There are still some rapidly expanding populations, but the trends are well-established in most major countries such as China, Japan, North America, Europe.

You should note that long after women start having fewer than replacement numbers of children, the population keeps growing. By the time the population starts dropping, the trend is decades underway. That's why Japan's numbers will fizzle fast [they started the under-replacement business in the 1980s].

It's a tricky concept to grasp having listened to Malthusian ideas for 100 years and Club of Rome and seeing all those graphs of humans piling up to the moon. But peek inside the numbers and you'll get the picture.
