You might be mistaken about Intel. Many are expecting them to guide lower for the next quarter even if June quarter earnings are met.
I would not bet on that possibility.
Remember also that AMAT and NVLS have spilled some bad news today; so expectation for Intel have probably diminished a bit.

Did anyone notice on John Joseph's comments today that pricing is firming up for CPUs. Also saw some notes out of Merrill (which is bearish) that were not as bad as we have seen in the past 2 months. AMD is again starting to get beaten up by Intel. Back to school season buying may be more than in the past because boxmakers will also be giving upgrade coupons for XP.

Based upon that, I believe that they will confirm guidance for next quarter (within a cent). There may even be a small chance that they raise the estimates!

We are likely to see the Nasdaq close higher tomorrow as many will need to cover their short positions (even if temporarily) as the bad news is out(AMAT, NVLS) and there is a chance of good news out of Intel.

Going short into the earnings of a company that is close to being a MONOPOLY is a little risky...especially when INTC keeps confirming guidance and some analysts still don't believe them.

JMHO.
Of course I could be wrong...now that would not be a surprise given how my predictions have been going lately.<g>
