Hi UF. "no matter how competent and complete I felt my explanation was, I would identify it as mho. That would leave room for others to contribute their POV."

I hope you appreciate that as we learn to understand one another, one thing you can bet for sure is that everything I say is MHO.

I have no delusions of grandeur or omnipotence. I don't expound on Your Humble Opinion, nor My Friend's Humble Opinion That I Don't Share, nor even some Absolute Truth That Isn't An Opinion.

And whether or not you (or anyone else) preface every sentence with an explicit disclaimer... well, it goes without saying as far as I am concerned. I can't imagine that you or anyone else would merely be uttering someone else's opinion not held as your own. Except when quoting a source, in which case we all seem to try to be extremely explicit.

My quest is to build the integrity of the opinions I hold. Dismissing those built upon insecure foundations and exploring the well constructed foundations of others for cracks. A difficult activity to be sure because discrimination between good and bad foundation matter is imprecise and error prone.

But unlike many others, I have the maturity to realize that my opinions are prone to error. I have no difficulty revising them, but only after a test of the foundation logic fails. Never on a whim. For I have discovered that they often exist for reasons that I don't fully appreciate or understand.

Rational revision of opinion... central to the process of effective learning.

Thus, you will find that I often articulate the basis for why I hold My Humble Opinion. And search out this basis in the HO of others. Somewhat tenaciously when I value the other person's opinion and find myself in disagreement.

That's all. 'Tis how I learn.

All, of course, IMHO.

John.
