I see your pragmatic suggestions based on pessimistic analysis. No matter what nightmares occur, there is still life and the opportunity for the pursuit of happiness. Adversity destroys or makes one stronger. If one thinks back and tries to place oneself in the primitive past centuries and think what did life consist of, I think it's amazing that any of us are here. I think everyone alive today is the product of several lives that were nightmares. Rape, Incest????? Raising children is not rocket science. It take time and effort and love. Think how little our ancestors knew and yet the human race has survived. >>>>It is equally responsible to recognize in yourself a lack of maturity, or the recognition that you can not That is saying, I don't want to be responsible. What does one define as "provide the kind of life any child deserves," Again, I say recall the lives of the past. In America basic material needs can be met and social services can provide for an education. Who even had books 100 years ago. Anyone can now browse the world. But what is a lack of maturity. I want to just hang with my friends and screw the child, my child, my own flesh and blood. The emotional stability of a child only needs love. >>>>but I also know from personal experience that adoption and parental rights law is let us say less than adequate as an option. Well we can fix the law and have life. But I've done some research into orphanages and many alive today and productive and normal came from orphanages. So does life cost? Yes. There is a clear bigotry against orphanages. >>>>>which is a negative obligation on all others to non-interference. That is the basis of the Enlightenment philosophy at the heart of the Declaration and the Bill of Rights. If you chose to drive a car and crash into something, you are responsible for compensating the person for property damage. Well if you are responsible for creating a life because you had sex, the same logic applies. But as I belive a human life has it's own rights, a human can be compelled to sacrifice if required to provide a temporary safe haven for that life. Any parent at birth has the opportunity to turn over a child to others for it's care. I am a catholic and others are free to chose whatever they believe are correct contraceptive measures. Yes they are not fool proof and if you create a life, you take responsibility for that life. All your adoption stuff is really kinda mumbo jumbo. I say this in the context of life. It may not be easy but it is not a draconian life sentence. Adoption or foster care are real options and I don't understand what problems other than guilt arise. Life and the quality of life is dependent on many accidents of life. Some natural parents are totally unfit and some foster care and adoptive parents are unfit. The range from fit to unfit exists. Some events occur and each child ends up in some fit to unfit environment. But until I see a group where 90% are committing suicide I figure in general life contains the self evident pursuit of happiness. Abortion is the solution of eliminating the socially unfit and removing one from responsibility. tom watson tosiwmeee
