I get a great kick of the way simple straightforward statements get slowly turned around, or better, get a better illumination (we're all human)- the original statement by XY:

"As far as we can see, ie Q2 of 2002 at the farthest, we cant discern any improvement in our situation"

Illumination shift I: ...but, puuuulease, tell me it will not get worse: XY
"expects the situation to be stable for next 4 quarters"

Illumination shift II: Hell, gimme a shot of optimism: XY
"expects the earnings to ramp up at the latest in Q2 of 2002"

So the sober realism of the reporting officer
"...as far as we can see in this fine brown mist of the stuff from the fan, I have nothing positive to report"

turns into a bright-eyes, sunny-weather "follow-the-yellow-brick-road" scenario of
"..and there's only a desert of a quarter or two (
...they're always so darn cautious...) to cross and then we're back to shooting for the moon".
