Another brillaint "penguin" executive :-)

TurboLinux Inc is today expected to appoint a new CEO just a year and a half after appointing Paul Thomas to take the company public. This is the latest of a series of retreats made by the company from the once-white hot Linux market.

San Francisco, California-based TurboLinux Thomas will be replaced by company chief operating officer Ly-Huong Pham. Thomas will remain as chairman of the TurboLinux board, and but also joins Mountain View, California-based games company Intrinsic Graphics Inc as CEO.

Thomas stepped down after it became clear that the company's postponed IPO would not proceed as the company struggled clear from the aborted acquisition of San Francisco, California-based open source services company LinuxCare Inc. Thomas also presided over job cuts at the company.

He told ComputerWire yesterday that it does not make financial sense to retain him as CEO, as Ly effectively performs day-to-day duties. "Ly was the person who has been running the company for most of this year. When I joined ... it was about taking the company public and making the company more corporate," he said. Thomas insisted, though, TurboLinux is in a strong cash position.

Thomas said he had suggested the search for a new CEO despite the board being satisfied with his performance. A TurboLinux spokesperson said yesterday that he will retain the board's support. Thomas was recruited from Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Artisoft Corp, taking over from Cliff Miller.
