MARKET TALK can be found using code N/DJMT

8:50 (Dow Jones) In filings released late Monday by the SEC, Microsoft
(MSFT) co-founder Paul Allen's investment vehicle, Vulcan Ventures, revealed
it intended to sell 200,000 shares of software maker BSquare (BSQR), 212,500
shares of Internet programming company CNET Network (CNET), 500,000 shares
of telecommunications firm Corvis (CORV) and 570,000 shares of applications
service provider Corio (CRIO). (GK)
8:44 (Dow Jones) Favorite groups of Investor's Edge technical analyst Gary
Kaltbaum: auto parts, newspapers, medical (hospitals, HMOs), pollution
control, railroads, REITS, S&Ls and trucking. Negative on these sectors:
investment brokers, gaming, radio/TV, biotech and drugs, oil & gas
(drillers, equipment, exploration, production), drug and supermarkets, and
tobacco. (TG)
8:34 (Dow Jones) Lifting Treasurys this morning: lower stock futures
following soft earnings news, long end gets a buyback announcement
Wednesday, global picture gets bleaker. Pressuring Treasurys: Argentina is
less volatile with opposition support of austerity plan, front end gets a
two-year announcement tomorrow, Greenspan seen optimistic on Wednesday. (SV)

8:30 (Dow Jones) As Wall Street takes in corporate America's 2H views -
horrible 2Q numbers are a thing of the past - the open for stocks looks
tentative. Of course, there's something for everyone already - GM says
current 3Q and full-year views are doable, while Kodak (EK) says it sees no
signs of economic recovery, the U.S. is still weak, and other regions are
even weaker. Big day on the data front - weekly retail sales numbers,
capacity utilization and industrial production for June, as well a speech on
inflation from Fed Gov. Meyer. The real potential for fireworks comes after
the bell and on Wednesday - Intel (INTC) reports tonight, Greenspan talks to
pols tomorrow. Stock futures just a little softer. (TG)

09:36 ET JDS Uniphase (JDSU) 10.36 -0.25: Trading floor buzz that company will take a huge goodwill writedown this quarter; the source of this rumor is easier than most to track down: it came from the company; during their Mar qtr conference call, the company discussed the possibility of a $40 bln goodwill writedown related to past acquisitions (SDLI, ETEK), but that it was unsure of the accounting issues created by a writedown that was larger than its market cap. !!!
