Bombardier Opens State-of-the-Art Train Maintenance
Facility in the United Kingdom

MONTREAL, QUEBEC-SEPTEMBER 18, 2001 - 09:11 EDT-
Bombardier Transportation today opened its new,
state-of-the-art maintenance facility, Central Rivers, in

Transport Minister David Jamieson, performed the official opening,
in the presence of Chris Green, Chief Executive of Virgin Trains,
Brian Suter, Executive Chairman of Stagecoach Group, J. R. Andre

Central Rivers has been purpose built to maintain the new 34
Voyager and 44 Super Voyager trains being manufactured for Virgin
Trains. The Cdn$69 million (48 million euro) facility, built on a
29 acre greenfield site at Barton-under Needwood, has already
created 120 new jobs and, when the full fleet of 78 trains is in
service in 2003, will eventually employ 250 staff. The facility
has additional capacity to enable Bombardier Transportation to
offer maintenance services to other train operators in the future.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Pierre Lortie said: "I am
delighted that Central Rivers is now officially open and fully
operational. We are already half way through deliveries of
Voyagers to Virgin and the first tilting Super Voyager is built
and on test in France. These trains are of the highest quality
and Central Rivers will ensure that the quality and reliability of
the units are constantly maintained to meet Virgin's challenging
availability requirements."

To mark the occasion of being half way through the build programme
of the 34 Voyager trains, Vice-Chairman of Bombardier Inc., Andre
Bombardier, named unit number 17 "Bombardier Voyager". Mr
Bombardier commented: "I am delighted to be here today to
celebrate the official opening of Central Rivers and to mark the
delivery of the seventeenth Voyager train to Virgin. For those of
you who travelled here on board the Voyager, I am sure you will
agree that the ride, facilities and quality of the new trains are
of the highest standard."
