Argentina might turn into one. recall the Mexico crisis of '82 - i remember gold shooting up by 36 bucks in a single day from a secondary low when that crisis came to the point of resolution. an LT factor that is not much watched or commented upon is the very high probability that the federal surplus is going to go up in smoke. gold generally reacts favorably to prospective US govt. deficits. however, that's not a catalyst, more an LT supportive factor.
