Maybe Dell's just boasting that they're finally shipping real genuine Windows instead of the skull-and-crossbones variety. I once bought a refurbished Dell machine that shipped with Windows preinstalled, but did not come with an installation CD. In order to create a backup, I would have had to run their Make Backup utility (or whatever it was called) to start building installer floppies. All twenty of them. Of course, I didn't do that. I just use my existing Windows 98 CD that shipped with Virtual PC for Macintosh.

I guess all of these very public piracy suits that Microsoft has been filing and issuing press releases about have scared Dell into compliance.
