Intel (INTC) 29.90 +0.77: -- Update -- Call ended. Tone was generally positive. While gross margins have declined, the company is experiencing its strongest ramp ever with Pentium 4. Prices have declined, but mgmt sounds confident Pentium 4 prices will be fine....stock at 29.40.

Forward Air (FWRD) 26.65 +0.34: Reports Q2 earnings of $0.23 a share, in line with the First Call consensus of $0.23; revenues rose 5.4% to $56.97 mln vs. consensus est of $59.2 mln; "Forward Air continues to be subject to many of the same economic factors experienced by other providers in the transportation industry." .

Maverick Tube (MVK) 12.99 -0.62: Reports Q2 earnings of $0.42 a share, $0.04 better than the First Call consensus of $0.38, revenues rose 9.2% to $134.56 mln; second quarter shipments of the Company's industrial products increased by 3% compared to the second quarter of fiscal 2000.

After Hours Movers : Prices vs. 4 pm close... INTC -0.40 after widening its range for Q3 revenues. VRTS -6.54 lower after taking down full year guidance... AAPL -2.6 falls in reaction to disappointing growth outlook for Q4... Stocks posting late gains include PXLW +1.75, RFMD +1.75, and DTHK +0.59 bidding higher after beating estimates.

Intel (INTC) 29.90 +0.77: -- Update -- On call, mgmt says company has spent nearly $5 bln of its full year cap-ex budget of $7.5 bln. Briefing.com sees this as good and bad. Good: We'll probably stop hearing about that number getting reduced as they have already spent two-thirds of it, so it's safe. Bad: Because they have spent so much of it already, the booking of revenue by the chip equipment companies has largely been done....stock at 29.46.

Intel (INTC) 29.90 +0.77: -- Update -- On call, mgmt describing a bullish ramp of Pentium 4 as units sold in Q2 doubled. During Q&A, mgmt said that they expect to be fully transitioned out of Pentium 3 into Pentium 4 on the desktop by the end of the year...stock at 29.51.
