<<What gives?>> Otellili stated in earlier portion of CC that Intel gained Market Segment Share and had 80% US retail market share.

The market share gain claim can only be construed that Intel gained US retail market share in Q2.

Kap
the article that I posted few messages back stated that intel increased market share by 6% which is a fraction above amd's increase. But if 6% is true then intel sold less than 17M chips which sounds way too low. That would give intel 50% market share and amd 22% so who got the remaining 30%?
My personal opinion is that intel took specific segment and calculated market share based on that segment only. I would guess that they used US retail market.
Since Barret announce earlier that intel gained market share now intel have to be creative about market share as well :-))

Kap,

Intel claims 1M units increase from Q2 and gain in market share. Did I here this right? What gives?

Intel's numbers don't jive. They said that unit shipments increased by 1 million units. They also said that unit shipments increased my 6%. That implies that they only shipped 16.6 million units. Now, Otellini also said that they had "well in excess of 80% market share. If we assume just 80%, then Intel shipped 4x7.7 million = 30.8 million units. But, 30.8/(30.8-1) = 1.034, or a 3.4% gain. I think that it is clear that Intel senior management can not do simple math, and that AMD gained market share.
