Joe, Re: Via seems to be in the middle of a slump.

I agree. They had one lucky shot (Apollo Pro 133 for PIII with PC133 support) and that's about it. Their execution has been catastrophic in the last few months. KT266 is still not shipping in volume and Apollo Pro 266 is a performance disaster. Also, I doubt that many motherboard manufacturers will adopt PX266 for P4 if VIA hasn't an Intel license. And in the socket A market they will be under heavy pressure from SiS and VIA.

Too bad that VIA's stock isn't traded in the US or Germany. It would make a good shorting candidate.

RE:"Via seems to be in the middle of a slump. Their Athlon DDR chipset sucks, they are losing ground across the board in Socket A chipsets, and now they are about to lose more share in Intel market, while their CPUs are not making any inroads.
I would like to see their market share of Socket A CPUs. It will go from virtually 100% to less than 50% this quarter IMO, with no competitive chips in sight. They still have some KX133(A) business, but as OEMs switch to DDR, Via is just one of many competitors, one of the weakest ones based on the reviews of their chipset."

I hope AMD, SIS and Nvidia put them out of their misery. VIA did as much to damage AMDs reputation as anyone.
