I think blaming negative reaction in Europe to W's on-high proclamations on global warming, star wars, and whatever on lack of "understanding of the existence and difference of other opinions." is extremely specious.

I don't claim to know their minds but they are showing less understanding or acceptance then GW. He isn't forcing them to do what we wants to do, he is just saying that he is going to go ahead and do it. In at least some cases they are not just disagreeing or stateing they don't think it is the best idea, they are instead acting with shock that GW could be so horrible as to have a thought like "missile defense is a good idea", or "Kyoto is a bad treaty".
