Beijing is fascinating. I have never seen so many people. Wow. It took me all day of walking around before we made it to Tiananmen square and I'd realized that I'd seen no evidence of communism whatsover, but I'd seen a zillion cell phones, 1 Qualcomm shopping bag and a 3Com umbrella. This place is in a constant state of transition, old becoming new, and in a hurry. Many speak a few words of English, but white folks are a major curiosity. We are stared at constantly. It is great to see where my son has lived for the past 12 months. It is a lot like I thought it was going to be, and a lot different. I can watch CNBC and CNN in the hotel and my sense is that everyone here is aware of the major news. A small picture of Gary Condit is on the front page of the Beijing (Chinese) newspaper. We live in a global village. They know a lot about us and they have a lot of misimpressions. I guess we're like that too. What an amazing bunch of things to take pictures of. Later, Paul
