The trick is to get leverage, or, synergy. If you are good at microprocessors, there is not much help, either way, if you build micro breweries. Manufacturing motherboards, dram, routers, switches, innards for set top boxes, hand held devices - even if you do not make money directly - you could make money indirectly.

I hate to use this example, but MSFT seems to leverage OSes very well - according to Judge Jackson.

But ultimately, if you make money you are a genius and if you lose money you are an idiot. It's pretty easy to keep score.
