This is certainly not insignificant news if this goes on for any length of time, especially for hedgers like PDG and AU, who have deliveries of previously sold gold to make. HGMCY, DROOY and Goldfields aren't exactly financial powerhouses either.

""South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers plans to hold a strike vote on Monday, July 23, according to Business Day. Pending the outcome of the vote, more than 150,000 gold miners will begin a strike starting on the night shift on Thursday, July 26. The announcement came after last minute talks between the NUM and the Chamber of Mines broke down over disagreements about wages, annual leave and medical benefits. If the miners go on strike it will affect operations owned by AngloGold, Gold Fields, Harmony and Placer Dome, among others. Approximately 20,000 coal miners will also be taking a strike vote on Monday over similar issues. Yesterday South Africa's three largest coal miners reached an agreement with approximately 30,000 workers to avoid a strike.""

So they decided to drop the rights to their much touted property in Peru, sell for cash and have nothing going for them at the moment? Didnt they have something in Labrador (Voisey?) ???
