Jesus was a political activist in addition to fulfilling his spiritual calling. The "turn the other cheek" statement certainly can be viewed as political in light of the Roman occupation of Judea in 30 A.D.

I just finished reading a book in which this was discussed. I shall strive to re-locate the book at the public library and present a more complete argument.
