ALthough I dislike contradicting you in public, my Thirst for Truth forces me to tell the world that Maj. Hasselhoff has led you astray. Trust the military to try to take credit for something so important to our national culture as Gilligan's Island.

I have it on good authority from Sherwood Schwartz, the producer of GI, who asks to remain anonymous, that GI was the first of the Survivor series.

"I was a man before my time, as many geniuses are," he said when I spoke with him after reading your post.

Unfortunately, the concept ran into trouble when the group voted the Skipper off the island the first night and he refused to go. This being the 60s, the group was far too mellow to insist, having discovered that a mix of gasoline and coconut oil caused a really good buzz, and instead initiated a protest against Schwartz, burning him in effigy with cries of "Down with the Establishment".

Schwartz was forced to air the show as a comedy in an effort to raise money for his defense when Ginger sued for damages to her wardrobe, which she claimed had been permanently stained with coconut oil.
