You have a choice. If you don't like the Microsoft way, stay away from it. But it has always been so, that if you wanted some specific information, there would be a chance that only one person or one company had that information, and you had to ask this person or company for it.

But if Microsoft makes some statistics on their passport users, they will probably find a lot of people living in Uganda, using their systems from a high-end internet connection, from an Intel 386-based Macintosh whose name is "Asdf Asdf".
